Rachel: New album almost complete

February 24th, 2007

Hey superfans… We are finishing off the vocals for the CD today and tomorrow. It is an exciting time for us because we are close to finishing the new record. We have already sent some tracks to Joel Grundahl who has started to mix and EQ and touch things up. It is sounding great. More songs for Joel on Monday!

As we are nearing the completion of the record, we are starting to work on the marketing and promotion. Ryan has some great ideas that we will be working on over the next few weeks. Personally, I can’t wait to do the photo shoot with Tammy. She is so wonderful to work with.

We should have lots of updates on this site over the next few weeks, so keep checking back. Or, as Ryan would say, subscribe to the RSS feed! See ya soon.

Rachel’s holiday update

December 20th, 2006

hey superfans… Well, we are taking a few weeks off from recording as we scatter around the province to hang with friends and family for the holiday season. We should be back in action in early January as we tackle the last few tidbits of the new CD. Yes, it is almost done.

Ryan was out a few weeks ago and ran into some fans who check this site often. He mentioned to me that maybe I should update this more. I try! Every time we go in to record I start writing something, but I keep getting sidetracked in the studio. So now, I am writing this while I am at home where there are no distractions… well maybe a few but not as many.

We had a great year. Shane solidified our drums, and Tony brought in a heavier rock sound. Rick and Ryan spent countless hours in the studio and working on some new stuff. We played some shows and spent the last five months recording. The recording is taking longer than we wanted, but we feel that it is going to be worth the wait.

I’ll keep you updated.

Update from the studio

October 17th, 2006

Hey superfans… I am writing to you from the studio to say that we are still alive and working away on the new CD. I couldn’t believe that it has been so long since we did an update. So I felt compelled to do a quicky right now.

The CD is sounding great. We still have guitars left to do on a few songs and some vocals. Then we do the mix and master. We are experimenting a bit more than we thought we would, so things are taking a wee bit longer than we expected. We think the results will be worth it.

The T-shirts in the store are selling fast and we are out of some sizes already, so now is the time for you to place an order.

We’ll keep you updated more often in the next few weeks.

Rachel’s Diary: from the studio

August 15th, 2006
Shane is drumming "Maybe Tonight."

Hey superfans….

We have been recording for about three weeks. And we haven’t had any fights yet. Not that we fight a lot, but when you get five people in a room for a long time, sooner or later things are going to break down. I think I could take on the guys though. Shane thinks he could whoop me, but he doesn’t know some things that the other guys know. We’ll see if he gets to find out.

The songs are sounding great. We went into this session with some solid ideas but have been doing some experiments too. So, now some of the songs sound a lot different, and much better. Every time we talk about recording, I always think of the boring parts of listening to the same bass riff for two hours. But this time, things are more lively. Ryan is shooting a video of the making of the CD, and we are all "starring" in it, so we get to ham it up a bit more which breaks up the monotony.

We are still finishing up the drums and guitars, so I haven’t had as much to do lately, but that will change in a few weeks. I’ll be back with more updates in a few days. They guys say that maybe I can play some cowbell now, so I need to sign off.

Rachel’s Diary: back from Regina

July 24th, 2006
HB playing in Regina on July 20/06

Hey Superfans… We are all back from Regina now after scattereing in different directions over the weekend. Wow, what a great group of people to play in front of! We had such a good time on Thursday night and playing in front of so many new people really gave us a good vibe. I hope you all got a good fortune cookie!

We need to thank Christine a million times over for organizing the event. She rocks! So does Sonic Orchid! It was great to meet her and the rest of her band. Also, Jennifer Jade Kerr, Kim Fontaine and Vandelay were amazing. Check them all out, if you get a chance.

As many of you know, we record every show we do. Ryan said that we should have some clips of this show on the website in a few days. I am looking forward to that as there are so many songs that we want you to hear! All of us are excited about the new stuff.

For the next few weeks, we will be completing the CD. We are going to post lots of stuff to the site during this process… from photos to videos to rough cuts. So keep checking back.

Rachel’s Diary: getting ready to rock

July 18th, 2006
Rachel is pounding out ideas for a new tune.

hey superfans…

I am sitting here at practice and we are working on some new stuff. Of course, our big focus right now is getting ready for the "Rockin’ for Breast Cancer Research" in Regina on Thursday. We are playing with Sonic Orchid, Kim Fontaine and Vadelay. We start just after 8:00 so get there early to hear us! This show is being filmed for TV, so be loud and have a good time! Try to bring some friends out so we can convert them to the HoneyBlu sound!

All of our new T-shirts just got here and Ryan should have the website rolling with them in a day or so. They are super-kool and super-kwality too. Our good friend, Justin Swedberg designed them. If you join our mailing list, you will get a discount when you buy them online. Folks in Regina will have the first chance to get their hands on them on Thursday, where we will be having a sale!

And, I guess I can let the cat out of the bag… we are entering the final recording sessions for our CD on Monday. We think it will take a few weeks to complete, and we can’t wait. It’s been a long time in the making, but the results will be worth it!

I’ll keep you posted with some other news in the next few weeks, so check back or subscribe to the RSS feed.
